Ozempic® 101

How much does Ozempic cost in Canada?

The cost of Ozempic in Canada depends on your prescribed dose, pharmacy pricing, insurance coverage, and any available manufacturer savings programs. Raven offers eligible patients access to Ozempic starting at $124.99 per month. Your final cost may vary based on your treatment plan and eligibility.

Can I get Ozempic online in Canada?

Yes. Eligible adults in Canada can complete an online health assessment through Raven. A licensed Canadian healthcare provider reviews your medical history to determine whether Ozempic is clinically appropriate. If approved, your prescription can be fulfilled and delivered where available. Ozempic cannot be obtained legally in Canada without a prescription.

Who can prescribe Ozempic in Canada?

Ozempic can only be prescribed by a healthcare provider who is authorized to prescribe medications in your province or territory. At Raven, licensed Canadian healthcare providers review every assessment individually before deciding whether treatment is appropriate.

Is Ozempic available in Canada?

Yes. Ozempic is available in Canada by prescription. Availability may vary depending on pharmacy inventory and provincial supply. A licensed healthcare provider must determine whether Ozempic is appropriate for your individual health needs before it can be prescribed.

What is the difference between Ozempic and generic semaglutide?

Ozempic and approved generic semaglutide contain the same active ingredient, semaglutide. Health Canada requires generic medications to demonstrate bioequivalence, meaning they perform comparably to the brand medication. The primary differences are the manufacturer, pen device, packaging, and price. Your healthcare provider can help determine which option is appropriate for your treatment plan.

What is the difference between Ozempic and Wegovy?

Both Ozempic and Wegovy contain semaglutide but have different approved indications and dosing schedules in Canada. Ozempic is authorized for adults with type 2 diabetes, while Wegovy is authorized for chronic weight management in eligible patients. A licensed healthcare provider can determine which medication, if any, is appropriate for you.

What is the difference between Ozempic and Mounjaro?

Ozempic contains semaglutide, while Mounjaro contains tirzepatide. Although both are once-weekly injectable prescription medications, they contain different active ingredients and work differently in the body. Your healthcare provider will recommend the treatment that best matches your medical history, health goals, and clinical needs.

Will my insurance cover Ozempic?

Some private insurance plans may cover Ozempic when prescribed for eligible medical conditions. Coverage varies between insurers and individual benefit plans. Raven does not offer direct billing, but if you're eligible for reimbursement, the documentation required for your insurance claim is included with your prescription package.

What are the most common Ozempic side effects?

The most commonly reported side effects of Ozempic include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach discomfort, and decreased appetite. Many people find these effects improve as their body adjusts to treatment. Your healthcare provider will review potential benefits and risks before prescribing Ozempic and can help you manage side effects if they occur.

How does Ozempic work?

Ozempic contains semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It works by helping regulate blood sugar levels, slowing stomach emptying, and increasing feelings of fullness. These effects can help improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes, and your healthcare provider will determine whether Ozempic is appropriate based on your individual health profile.

Can I use Ozempic if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

No. Ozempic is generally not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or currently breastfeeding, tell your healthcare provider before starting treatment. They can discuss appropriate treatment options based on your individual circumstances.
